Four Firefighters Injured In Four-Alarm Jersey City Fire (Update)

Four firefighters were injured after a four-alarm blaze broke out in a vacant building in Jersey City on Tuesday, May 30, authorities said.

The fire began at 234 Montgomery St. before spreading to 236 Montgomery St., Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. 

The firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries when stairs collapsed and were all taken to a local hospital, Scalcione said.

Five people, four adults and one child, were displaced and are being tended to by the Red Cross

The Public Safety Department is requesting people avoid the area.
